What to Ride at the park

Pumptrack

The pump track area consists of a beginner and intermediate level pump tracks. This allows riders to progress skills on the single location.

The raised start area of the pump tracks are accessed via DDA compliant access path to allow for all users to reach the collection area of the track. The beginner pump track can also be accessed via a level access from the LTR. This level access will be somewhat less intimidating to new users of the track compared to looking down at it from the raised platform.

The beginner start hill will be slightly lower than the intermediate pump track which it is built against. Being adjacent to the LTR in this way allows for integration and progression of users from the learn to rider track onto the pump track with ease.

The start area and corners on the beginner pump track will be slightly raised to give interest to the users and allow them to progress during each visit. This raised start area for instance will allow basic speed to be gained right from the slope rather than requiring a run up to begin moving as required on the flat. This helps to keep the space required for such a facility to a minimum and subsequently the cost also.

The low nature of the features on the beginner’s pump track in front of the building aids visibility for all users and guardians helping reduce chances of anti-social behavior and vandalism.

All obstacles on the track are to be rollable meaning not so confident riders can roll over each obstacle and still carry sufficient speed for the next. The nature of the obstacles and angle of the berms will allow more experienced riders to carry further speed and negotiate the obstacles in a number of different ways. Each element of the track will be progressive and allow riders to increase their skill level during each visit.

This area will be open to all wheel users due to its smooth asphalt finish.

Cross-country/Cyclo-cross track.

Cross-country is form of mountain biking where riders will continuously ride a lopped track with various different features. The main loop is designed for all abilities with off shoots of more technical grade tracks. Not only do the technical features go down hill but the also go up hill to. You can ride an xc tack with most bikes however the preferred bike is either a hardtail or a full suspension up to 120mm travel.

The cyclo-cross can use the same track as the xc however the only difference is a cyclo cross rider will dismount and run up and down any technical feature. The bikes also very different to a mountain bike. The bike is almost identical to a road bike apart from the tyres.

The tyres are still thin, they just have small nobbles on for gripping in the slop. This sport is very much a winter sport and its a flat out timed race.

Skills area

The skills area provides an introduction to maintaining biking within a controlled space. Being only a minorly sloping area, speed can be easily controlled for all users meaning beginner riders won’t gain uncontrollable speeds from long slopes which could be an issue when trying to progress on other areas.

The line will include a range of trail features aimed at beginner level riders along the main trail line with additional intermediate features along opt-in sections as rider’s skill levels progress.

Features will be similar to those found on the main trail line but at a more controlled speed as detailed above.

Collection areas allow groups to congregate and discuss how they rode the previous section as well as how they will look to negotiate the next.

This is a small are on the bike park with small features. The idea of this area is progression. Great facility which gives riders of all ages and abilities to practice their skills before heading out on to the trails.

Mountain Bike Trails

Duel track

This consists of the duel track along with a push up line for repeat runs.

Although this is a standalone facility it can also form part of the main riding loop of the site and skill progression for users.

A duel track consists of 2 riding lines running side by side with mirroring features and lengths of each other along the entire track line. These are short fun filled tracks which can be rode alone or with friends. The mirroring and short nature of the track allows for fast flowing fun racing with friends riding side by side throughout. The shortness and ease of return allows the fun to be repeated over and over again.

The track can also provide a venue for events (formal or informal) in an action-packed knockout format which is an internationally recognised racing format.

The side by side nature of this type of riding means it speeds up progression as riders push themselves to get better and beat their friends.

Blue trail area

Next step of skill progression from the skills area allowing for beginner riders to advance progressively.

This will form a number of descending sections each with their own separate feel to bring on different type of riding skills such as speed, cornering and technical features.

All descending sections will come together at the base of the slope and connect into the single return climb and/or the push up back to the top.

Red trail sections including full loop

Black trail opt-ins

We have indicated on the drawing 2 no black grade (advanced) opt- in sections. Additional black opt-in features can be incorporated on this area or additional locations off the red grade trail where we feel suitable to make use of features on the site

These lines will incorporate the most advanced features on the area allowing riders features to aim their skill progression towards

Dirt jump area

A safe monitored area for local riders to be involved in the creation and evolution of a safe manageable dirt jump area for all skill levels.

The intention here would be to source and import suitable dirt jump material and locate this approximately where required in order for the rider group to finish shape and dress to suit.
